Nishmat Shalom CDM Notes – 17 May 2011 – Meeting hosted by
Ed
Attending: Max, Alex, Ed, Carol; Vicky participated by
phone. Ethel, Lea and Raja submitted agenda items.
1) Treasurer’s
report-including resolution of uncashed $25/check-not addressed at this
meeting
2) Childcare usage
report: Ed reported that George had provided childcare at each of the
services. One month there were no children
present. Otherwise, there was an average of two children
present.
3) Tikkun Leyl Shavuot: We
agree to lend our name to the community Tikkun Leyl Shavuot and to
publicize it to our members. Ed and Max are potentially
interested in teaching late at night, and Ed may be volunteering to
help with childcare. Ed will call Lauren back and let her
know our response. Max will call her about teaching as
well. Alex will print some additional Nishmat brochures,
and Max will bring those as well as some he already has to the Tikkun.
4) NHC
Institute T-Shirt Sponsorship: Each Summer Institute has a unique
T-shirt, with the names of affiliated communities printed on the back.
For $72, up to 300 people will wear your name on their backs, for the
week of Institute and for years afterward. We discussed that
$72.00 represents a doubling of the price from the past and a
substantial amount of our budget. Max offered to write the NHC
and ask if we could sponsor for the old price of $36.00. We
agreed to sponsor for $36.00 and if this were not possible to discuss
making a $36.00 donation to the NHC at our next meeting.
5) Nishmat Shalom
co-sponsorship of Yeashore bonfires for 2011: we agreed to
continue.
6) Camping Shabbaton:
September 9th – 11th; Lea and Alex have reserved camp sites at
Butano State Park and are organizing. Camp sites can
be shared; would like to encourage more people to come, but people do
need to reserve sites.
7) Report back on possible
new Ark: Max has made contact, but has not gotten to see the
either of the Jewish Milestones arks. Meanwhile, Ed did a
fabulous job scrubbing down our current ark.
8) Search for new
newsletter editor (see job description, below): Vicky is doing
her next to last newsletter now, and we are looking for someone to take
over with a newsletter to go out around January,
2012. Vicky will coordinate our annual appeal with
the Fall newsletter.
9) Alex reported that
Erev Shirah on February 26th was a successful event with about 7 people
attending.
10) Nishmat Shalom presence on
Facebook? Raja reserved a Facebook page for Nishmat, currently
with no content. We are interested in potentially adding a
description and directing people to our website, but only maintaining
our calendar on the website. We want to make sure privacy
concerns are considered. To discuss further at next
meeting.
11) Possible talk after services by
Dan J-S, Friend of Ed, Professor at Church Divinity School of the
Pacific. We approved and chose the offered topic on the Maccabean
Martyrs. Ed will review dates with Dan, and coordinate
getting this into the Fall newsletter.
12) Date Planning:
We decided to move the July service to July 23rd (rather than July
16th) in order not to conflict with the Kehilla
Retreat.
Note: Tisha B’Av falls on August 9th.
